boss

How would you feel if your direct boss is leaving your team?  When I say “direct boss”, I am referring to the person who you reports to directly.  He is not the big boss, nor the boss of your boss.  Going back to the question; so how would you feel if your direct boss is leaving your team?

I do not want to sound so negative about this.  I do not want to be hypocritically positive either.  I should say it is a combination of both points.  Naturally, the goodbye-and-being-sad syndrome will not be an excuse; knowing that you won’t be seeing the person anymore whom you used to work with 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.   There is also the confusion on what will happen to your job and the team as a whole.   Arrgh!… you also regret not resigning earlier than him.  Haha!

On the brighter side, this could be the chance for some competent people or those who are next-in-line to assume the position and get promoted.  Or, if the management thinks that a new guy should come in instead, then it will be an introduction of new (if not better) lessons and ideas.  Of course, the company is transparent enough not to allow the crew to get drown if the captain abandons the ship.  After all, if everything fails, it is not only because of an individual’s failure, but rather a failure of the team. Whatever could be your boss’ reasons in leaving the team, what really matter is you stay focus on your personal plans and needs.  It is a small world.  There will be chances that you could be able to work together again somewhere in the future.  If it will not happen, just let all things you learned from him to nourish you with your daily task.  You may drop the bad times, and let the good times leave a smile in your face.  That’s life after all.

(Inspired by an on-going experience… eh hehe)

ey jong, as u know, so very recently, my reporting mgr also left the dept….well, at first when he informed us that he'll be leaving, the group had mixed feelings — ya know the usual stuff….somehow, with a little over 2 years working with and for him u already know his quirks and has already established relationship. bringing someone new would definitely rock the boat….on the other hand, a new boss as u say is a welcome treat as well….what with getting new perspective, learnings and all. plus the fact that you don't have history so you could impress him/her with ur talents!!! naks some more pogi / ganda points earned pa, di ba!?! but at the end, its ur attitude towards change that will impact your experiences di ba. so, good luck i hope this change will bring a lot good things to you and your team.

so far, in our group, the change in mgmt has been great!!! =))
