singapore

Sunday, January 27, 2008

I just came back from a three-day training in our Singapore office.  My schedule was so hectic that I had a very limited time to roam around.   Two colleagues from Taiwan have also flew in to attend the training.

Right after the first day, our boss from my Singapore team treated us for a drink at Harry’s.  I had a mug-full of Kelkenny beer as he had suggested.  Then we had our dinner at the No Sign Board restaurant in Esplanade.  It was a galore of mouth-watering dishes of crabs and other seafoods combined with a Tiger beer for a drink.  Then before heading back to the hotel, we had another round of cider beer at Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub.  Wow!

Ironically, brother Jun-Jun was also in town for a visit due to some undisclosed reasons.  Together with sister Dhey-Dhey, I managed to spend some hours with them in Clark Quay and Sentosa.  Unfortunately, I was not able to meet all of my friends there.  Until next time!

success

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

An acquaintance from another office within our building shared with me her business card.  I find it unique to see a business card with a poem printed at the back.   The title of the poem is "Success".   Here it goes:

The road to success is not straight.
There is a curve called failure,
A loop called confusion,
Speed bumps called bad friends,
Red lights called enemies,
Caution lights called family,
You will have flats called jobs.
BUT …
If you have a spare wheel called determination,
An engine called perseverance,
Insurance called faith,
A driver called GOD,
You will make it to a place called SUCCESS.

tabing ilog

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Sa ilog ang mundo’y tahimik
Akoy nakikinig sa awit ng hangin
Habang kayo’y hinihintay
Na sana’y dumating bago magdilim

Refrain:
Sa twina’y kandungan niyo ang duyan
Panaginip na walang katapusan
Ang ilog hantungan niya’y pangako
Ng inyong pagbabalik

Chorus:
Ngiting kasama ng hangin
Luhang daloy ng tubig sa ilog na di naglilihim

Sa ilog ang mundoy may himig
Di sana magpalit ang awit ng hangin
Habang kayo’y hinihintay
Mata’y ngingiti puso’y nananabik
(repeat refrain and chorus)

Sa ilog…

flats

Saturday, January 19, 2008

For the nth time, I have watched Claudine’s Dubai movie again.  One of my flatmates own a dvd copy.  To my surprise, I found out that the flat where Claudine and Pokwang stayed is just some blocks away from my flat.  Wow!  How I wished that the movie is real.  Now everytime I passed-by in front of that building, I am always looking forward to meeting Claudine.  Hahaha!

sometimes

Thursday, January 10, 2008

I had my first taste of a night out in this corner of the world.  Together with some friends, we went to the Jules Bar that is located within the compound of Le Meridien Hotel.  It was pure fun!  Two Pinoy bands alternately performed.  One of them doing comedy acts as well.

I remember experiencing the same atmosphere during one of my work-related visits in HK while I was still with the sunny company.  Swinging to the beat of the music while holding a bottle of beer.  Mingling and brushing-elbows with people of different nationalities and cultures.

We parted ways around 2 a.m.  I managed to have two loads of Heinekenn.

After a week of hard work, it is good to have such fun sometimes.  I repeat … sometimes.

Monday, January 7, 2008

"… ang araw lulubog, bukas mabubusog…  sa Chickenjoy manok at Yumburger bilog.  I love you sabado, kahit buong linggo.  Hintay ka lang, Jollibee, and’yan na ako.  Panlasang Pilipino, at home sa Jollibee!"

"It’s your life, you are the only one who can make it good or bad.  If you choose the last, just swim with the stream, but if you choose the good life, be prepared, it’s hard work."   - (Soeren Kirkegaard)

2008

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

I joined a group of revellers in a new year's eve party at the desert. Around past 7 p.m. together with three of my flatmates, we headed to the pick-up point where a tourist bus is waiting to bring us to the Lama Desert Campsite. This is the campsite where Extra Challenge's "Pasaway sa Dubai" episode was shot. At the camp's entrance, we were transferred to a 4wd vehicle that brought us to a valley sorrounded by sand dunes.

As soon as we arrived, we immediately took the chance to ride in a camel. One of the highlights is the performance of two exotic belly dancers who took the night by storm. The party is not complete without the mouth-watering barbeque buffet dinner. Water and soda are unlimited. Wines are available with additional fee.

A Filipino group with resemblance to Street Boys had their share of performance. Music was provided literally by a DJ "bombay" from UK.  One of the party hostess is a Filipina who rocked the night with her funny antics.

I never imagined celebrating a new year this way. Let me share this sms message I received from my mom on new year's eve.

"365 gifts will soon unwrapped before your eyes. 365 reasons to be thankful to God that in spite of what the days may bring, we have 365 new opportunities to experience God's presence. May each one counts in the fulfillment of our dreams and in the building of our character. Happy New 365 days in 2008!"
