summer 2006

Sunday, June 18, 2006

This year is the most-traveled summer in my entire earth life.  Imagine going out-of-town almost every weekend.  It was a blast!

Circle Farm - Bacoor, Cavite:  This is a new water resort in the heart of Bacoor across SM Molino.  It is a nice place for small gatherings like my birthday.

Villa Estancia Resort - Tagaytay:  Overnight stay in a nipa hut rooms without air conditioner.  The cool breeze from the veranda is more than enough to keep you under your blanket.  It was my first time to have a dip in a cold swimming pool as early as seven in the morning; on a high land.

Unnamed Beach - Bolinao, Pangasinan:  We called it virgin beach considering the place is still unexplored.  It was memorable to us because this was the first time we went swimming with my family and relatives from Bulacan and Dagupan. We stayed in a very cheap big house overnight; then amazingly woke-up without the salt water some kilometers away from the shore.

Puerto Galera – Mindoro:   I am quite sad with how nature is slowly being exploited.  But because it is my first time to visit this place, I tried enjoying the trip with a new crowd.  Since it was a long weekend, there was a massive exodus of people from Manila.  Good thing, the Mindoro sling save the day.

Volet’s Resort - Dasmarinas, Cavite: This is a water resort with a lot of giant slides and a wave pool.  It is the official summer outing with my family to celebrate my mother’s birthday.

Wonder Island – Calamba, Laguna:  Our company’s venue for the annual summer outing that turn-out to be the “advance party” summer outing.  The typhoon postponed the event but because we are already in the place, we just enjoyed the stay by dipping in the warm pool despite the heavy rain and gusty winds.

Rosewood Resort - Calatagan, Batangas:  A get-away from our busy schedule to treat a dear friend who will be going out of the country very soon.  It started with a road trip to Batangas without a confirmed reservation of a place to stay.  It is an experience full of “firsts”.

Baguio City:  Mines View Park, The Mansion, Philippine Military Academy, Good Shepherd, Strawberry Farm, Camp John Hay, Burnham Park, Bell Church, Session Road Night Market, and SM.  What more can I say?  A cold night chilled with Cruisers.

Here are some of my summer shots:

world cup

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

The FIFA world cup is very much dear to me.   Coming from a non-football-playing country, this tournament is a stranger to me until my Saudi days.  My stint in the Arab world introduced me to football and from that time on, I have learned to love the game specially the world cup series.

As expected, this event is not as popular as the NBA in our country.   And I had a hard time channel-surfing to get a front-seat live coverage of every game.   Fortunately, I was able to find one network — Solar Sports Plus.  My only dilemma now is the time difference between Manila and Germany.  Anyway, I also get my updates through the official website — http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/

Of course, it is too early to predict who will make it to the 2006 FIFA world cup finals.  Aside from the ever popular Brazil, I am hoping that South Korea would be able to finish with flying colors.   I am not a Koreanovela fanatic, but I want a team from Asia to dominate the field this time.  :-)

old days

Sunday, May 21, 2006

After a very long time, I went on a night-out again with some old and new friends.  We met at around half-past seven last night and drive-off to Harbor View located at the heart of Luneta Park in Manila.  We had seafood, beef and vegetables for dinner.

Around nine, we moved to Starbucks Intramuros to have a taste of sweet pastries and heaps of cold beverages.  By early morning, we went back to Makati and hang-out in Cable Car along Pasay Road.   We immersed ourselves with couples of beers and cool sounds.   Finally before parting ways while the sun rises, we stopped at the near-by McDonald’s to have a sip of hot brewed coffee.

It was a rare chance to be with them again.   The whole night and early morning was spent reminiscing our past, laughing about some recent experience, and sharing personal matters.  I wonder when will be the next time.   The experience is worth our time.

hurting

Why do I hurt the people around me?

Will it hurt someone if I shut up when she told me to do so?
Will it hurt the bride when I do not attend her wedding?
Will it hurt when I cannot provide a favor?
Will it hurt when I do not allow myself to love someone who is already in a relationship?
Will it hurt when I befriend a friend?
Will it hurt when I do not support a friend who had just broke-up with her boyfriend?
Will it hurt when I leave early from work?
Will it hurt when I prioritize new friends over the old ones?
Will it hurt when I do not want to share personal matters?

I may not deliberately hurt them.  I am a misunderstood human being.

Foolish me.

pasta

Friday, April 14, 2006

I have an eternal craving for pasta specifically those stuff with red sauce.  It is a bizarre feeling that I cannot explain.  Everytime I think of a pasta dish, I feel like a child going after an ice cream.

Thankfully, there are some good places around Makati that offers great pasta dishes.  Of course, I exclude those sphags offered in popular fastfood chains.  They are out of my taste buds.

One holy example is the promodoro pasta at The Java Man; a cafe located inside PowerBooks along the GB3 walkway.  Recently, I have tried their tuna-in-oil pasta.  Wow, I love it!

The seafood pasta of Amecci is another type that keeps me coming back to that place.  It is located inside Don Bosco along Pasay Road.  They serve a number of Itallian pasta dishes that are generously cooked with complete ingredients.

Added to my list is Sabarro at the Glorietta.  Ziti with thick meat sauce is my all-time favorite.  They offer half-servings which is more than enough to satisfy my hunger.

Today is a Holy Thursday.  Being a Catholic devotee, our family practice abstinence by not eating meat until Easter Sunday.  During this time of the year, we always have a pasta with sardine sauce.  But today, I voluntarily cooked a special Pasta Promodoro with shrimp, spanish sardine, and clams.  I used a classic linguine pasta.  It was a box-office hit!  Everyone in the family had a feast.  I must say, the hefty budget should prove itself or else. :-)

I have to end this.  My stomach is rumbling.  Need to check for leftovers in the fridge.  Yummy. :-)
